On day one, head to Negombo. This city is renowned for the number of churches there are, allowing it the name ‘Little Rome’. Visit St. Mary’s Church to view the pleasant interior or head to the beach to relax after your journey.
Make your way to Anuradhapura. It is an ancient city which has existed for centuries, with over 100 kings sitting on the throne. Cycle through this wondrous city as you take in the sights of temples and ruins of old kingdoms.
Head to Dambulla on day three. On the way stop by Polonnaruwa where you will feel the joy of cycling through the city and taking in the sights. Visit the temples located around Polonnaruwa and various ruins from past kingdoms. After this exhilarating excursion, return to your trip. Once in Dambulla, head to the Dambulla Cave Temples. Here you will see the glorious sights of a cave network filled with murals of Lord Buddha and statues. It is an interesting location to visit.
During the morning hours, head to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Hike up the tall fortress and come across breathtaking frescoes long surpassing the creator. On the top view the seat of the king and the unfathomable views of the surroundings. Be in awe of the fascinating history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, head to the vibrant city of Kandy. This is a fascinating city filled with lovely architecture. Explore this city and come across the breathtaking sights of the buildings and the lake in the heart of the city. Then head to the Temple of the Tooth Relic where you can see the unique architecture. Walk through the massive area of this temple and take a look at the museum within.
Make your way to the Knuckles Mountain Range. Walk through tea plantations and forests in the Knuckles Range. After that, enjoy breathtaking views of the local wildlife and a variety of flora. Making a detour to see a waterfall is an additional choice. This is a journey not to be missed by those who value the great outdoors.
En route to Nuwara Eliya, make a stop at the Ramboda Waterfalls. Take pictures to capture this wonderful moment as you have made it halfway through the exciting vacation. Once you’re in Nuwara Eliya, the cool central city, visit a tea factory. Here you can learn how the world-famous Sri Lankan Tea is produced. Enjoy the sights of the tea being delicately plucked.
In the morning, head to Horton Plains. This beautiful location is filled with a variety of wildlife, flora and fauna. Take the marked path leading to the World’s end. Here you will be amazed by the incredible sights which provide the namesake of the location.
On this day you will travel from Nuwara Eliya to Ella by train which is a lovely and breathtaking experience. During this journey, you can take pictures of the stunning Ravana waterfalls among other sights. Later in the afternoon continue on to Udawalawe where you are welcome to stay the night.
Take a jeep safari in the morning through the Udawalawe National Park. Be bewildered by the sights of wildlife in close proximity. Take this exciting journey before heading to Sinharaja. This is the home of the Sinharaja reserve. It is another location that is extraordinary for the conservation efforts.
With a naturalist to guide you, take a guided walk through the Sinharaja Rainforest. Come across the various wildlife and flora and fauna which live their lives unbothered by human intervention.
Bid farewell to Sinharaja and make your way to the southern city of Galle. In this city lies the best-conserved fort of the country – the Galle Dutch Fort. Visit the Galle Fort and the Old Town where you can learn and understand the history regarding this structure.
Spend two days in leisure in Galle. You can spend time by the beach with your family. Spend time sipping on king coconuts and playing on the beach. If not you can spend the day walking through the streets of Galle. Go shopping for souvenirs, or taste fresh seafood. There are endless activities to enjoy in this lively city.
Leave Galle and make your way to the airport to depart Sri Lanka.
